“79-Year-Old Hollywood Icon Claims He’s Never Sent a Text or Email”

Tom Selleck, 79, has navigated his entire life without sending a single email or text message, and it’s both impressive and intriguing.

Renowned for his roles in “Blue Bloods,” “Magnum PI,” and his memorable appearance on “Friends,” Selleck has built an extraordinary career in Hollywood. In his upcoming memoir, “You Never Know,” he reveals that he largely avoids modern technology. Instead, his wife, Jillie Mack, whom he married in 1987, handles his messages, while his secretary manages his emails.

“I occasionally look up my name,” Selleck admitted, “which started with the book, but I’ve never sent my own email. I’ve never texted anybody. I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn’t survive otherwise. But I don’t know, I have a hard time writing things down, which is odd for someone promoting a book.”

Outside of work, Selleck prefers a tranquil home life and is not a big TV watcher despite his successful career on screen. He finds joy in nature and watching flowers bloom, which complements his email-free lifestyle.

“A cigar and a glass of whiskey is a nice way to end the day,” he shared. “I’ve had a very good life, a very lucky life. I don’t know if it’s what I figured I’d be doing, but I’m filled with gratitude.”

Selleck will soon have more time to enjoy his favorite pastimes as “Blue Bloods” is coming to an end. After 14 years, the police procedural drama will air its final episodes later this year. Selleck, who gained fame in “Magnum PI,” has starred as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since “Blue Bloods” premiered on CBS in 2010.

In a touching statement about the show’s conclusion, Selleck wrote: “For the past 13 years, it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City but also highlights the importance of family. Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew has been a dream come true. I’m grateful to have been part of this extraordinary team for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their unwavering support, and heartfelt thanks to the fans who joined us for dinner every Friday night.”
