“Kevin Costner’s Western Sequel Receives a Boost with Horizon 2’s New Premiere Plan After $33M Setback”

Kevin Costner’s Western epic, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, has been rescheduled for a new premiere date at the 81st Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2024. The film was initially set for a theatrical release on August 16, 2024, but was pulled after the disappointing box office performance of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, which premiered on June 28, 2024. The first chapter in the planned four-part Western series only grossed $33.2 million worldwide against a $50 million production budget, marking it as one of 2024’s major flops.

Despite its lackluster box office performance, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 has found significant success on video-on-demand platforms, becoming the most popular movie in that space. This unexpected turnaround offers a glimmer of hope for the future of Costner’s Western franchise, suggesting that Chapters 3 and 4 may still be on the horizon. The first installment is now available for rent or purchase on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and various cable services.
