Kevin Costner Aims to Shoot Horizon Chapters 3 and 4 Back-to-Back in 2025

Kevin Costner’s ambitious passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, has faced some setbacks, but he remains determined to push forward. The first chapter of the saga didn’t receive the warm reception Costner had hoped for this summer, and Warner Bros. has pulled Chapter 2 from its release schedule. Despite this, Chapter 2 will still make its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month. Costner expressed his gratitude, stating, “My dream was always to showcase Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two at the Venice Film Festival. I’m indebted to [Venice Film Fest director] Alberto Barbera for his courage and leadership in committing to this cinematic journey. I return to the Venice Film Festival with excitement and gratitude. Long live the movies and those who stand by them.”

Although Chapter 2 will be shown at the festival, its official release date remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Costner is keen to continue with his saga. According to World of Reel, he plans to film Chapters 3 and 4 back-to-back in the spring of 2025. Costner has already shot nine days’ worth of footage for Chapter 3 but had to pause due to financial constraints. He told NBC, “The plan is to shoot a bit more of the third chapter and then film both chapters back-to-back next spring. I love this journey. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I’m passionate about these movies. The third one is even more challenging than the first two, and the fourth one will complete the story.”

Meanwhile, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 will soon be available on Max, with its rental price dropping significantly from $19.99 to $5.99 on Prime Video.

Despite the grand scale of the film and its role in setting up future chapters, it has received mixed reviews, holding a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though the audience score is more favorable at 71%. Chris Bumbray from our team notes, “Horizon feels like an appetizer for what’s to come, doing significant setup work that may leave viewers feeling like they’ve only experienced part of the story. However, I found it thoroughly engaging, and if Chapter 2 were available now, I would be eager to watch it immediately. I’m excited to see how the saga continues.”
