“This Kevin Costner Sports Classic with 88% on Rotten Tomatoes is Streaming Soon”

One of Kevin Costner’s early classics is set to find a new streaming home next month. Field of Dreams, the beloved 1989 supernatural baseball film featuring Costner alongside James Earl Jones, Amy Madigan, and Timothy Busfield, will be available for streaming on Netflix starting September 1. The movie, which tells the story of Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Costner) who transforms his cornfield into a magical baseball field inspired by a mysterious voice, also stars the late Ray Liotta, Gaby Hoffman, and Dwier Brown. The film has received impressive ratings of 88% from critics and 86% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Field of Dreams is adapted from W.P. Kinsella’s novel Shoeless Joe, with the screenplay written by Phil Alden Robinson, who is also known for Sneakers (Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd), The Sum of All Fears (Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman), and Freedom Song (Danny Glover, Vondie Curtis-Hall). Robinson directed the film just two years after In the Mood (1987), starring Patrick Dempsey and Talia Balsam, and most recently worked on the TV series The Good Fight, which he co-created with Robert and Michelle King and has six seasons streaming on Paramount+.

Kevin Costner’s highest-grossing films include his roles in comic book adaptations, with his portrayal of Jonathan Kent in the DCEU films Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice grossing $667 million and over $870 million worldwide, respectively. His 1990 film Dances with Wolves earned $424 million globally, equating to over $1 billion when adjusted for inflation. Additionally, his 90s hits The Bodyguard (1992), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), and Waterworld (1995) earned $411 million, $390 million, and $264 million, respectively, contributing to a lifetime box office total just under $3 billion.
