“Could Tom Selleck Rejoin This Franchise After BLUE BLOODS?”

With the conclusion of BLUE BLOODS, there’s renewed speculation about whether Tom Selleck will return to the JESSE STONE movie series, which has been on hiatus since 2015.

According to Screen Rant, Selleck’s dedication to BLUE BLOODS has prevented him from reprising his role as Jesse Stone. The last film in the series, JESSE STONE: LOST IN PARADISE, was released nearly a decade ago. Despite this, Selleck has expressed interest in continuing the series.

Fans can anticipate an update on the future of the JESSE STONE series once BLUE BLOODS concludes later this year. The original JESSE STONE movie debuted in 2005, and with its last entry in 2015, many hope to see the character return for one final chapter.

Selleck is widely recognized for his roles in TV series such as MAGNUM P.I. and BLUE BLOODS. The latter ran for 14 seasons with 22 episodes each, leaving Selleck little time for other projects. As a result, he hasn’t appeared in a film since 2010’s KILLERS, and his role as Frank Reagan has been his primary focus.

In a recent statement, Selleck reflected on his time with BLUE BLOODS: “For the past 13 years, it has been an honor to work on a show that celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, as well as the importance of family. Working with such an extraordinary team has been a dream, and I’m grateful to our fans who joined us every Friday night.”

The demanding schedule of BLUE BLOODS left Selleck unable to work on additional JESSE STONE movies. However, in a 2017 interview with Parade, he hinted at his desire to revisit the role, noting, “If BLUE BLOODS doesn’t get renewed, there’s room for a new JESSE STONE film. I’ve written some stories for him, and he’d be different now, given the time that’s passed.”

In a 2022 update to TV Insider, Selleck confirmed that he was developing a story for the final JESSE STONE movie. Although Hallmark Channel, which previously aired the films, has shifted its focus, Selleck remains hopeful that the project will find a new platform.

As Screen Rant points out, while JESSE STONE: LOST IN PARADISE was well-received, it did not provide closure for the character. With BLUE BLOODS wrapping up, there is renewed hope that Jesse Stone will have one final mystery to solve before he and his loyal dog, Steve, retire from the screen.
