“Tom Selleck Urges CBS to Rethink Decision on ‘Blue Bloods’ Cancellation”

Blue Bloods Set to Conclude This Year as CBS Confirms Cancellation, But Tom Selleck Remains Hopeful

“Blue Bloods” is set to air its final episodes this year following CBS’s decision to cancel the beloved police procedural last November. Despite this, the show’s star, Tom Selleck, remains hopeful that the network might reconsider its decision.

In a recent interview with CBS News, Selleck, who has won an Emmy for his role, was asked about the show’s ending. “Well, that’s a good question. I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck replied.

He highlighted the show’s continued success, saying, “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

Selleck’s sentiments echo his earlier remarks to TV Insider, where he noted that CBS might find many viewers are not ready to say goodbye. “The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas,” he stated.

Selleck has portrayed Commissioner Frank Reagan since “Blue Bloods” premiered in 2010, sharing the screen with Donnie Wahlberg (Detective Danny Reagan), Bridget Moynahan (ADA Erin Reagan), Will Estes (Sergeant Jamie Reagan), and Len Cariou (Henry Reagan).

Following the cancellation announcement, both the cast and fans rallied behind the #SaveBlueBloods campaign in a bid to extend the show’s run. Nevertheless, CBS President Amy Reisenbach confirmed the series will end in December. “We love this cast; we love their passion for the show,” Reisenbach said. “All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

Looking ahead, the 79-year-old Selleck has no plans to retire. “Hopefully, work,” he said about his future. “As an actor, you never lose — I don’t lose, anyway — that sense that every time I finish a job, it’s my last job. You just go to work and you do the work. And I have a lot of reverence for what I call ‘the work,’ and I love it. And I’d like to keep doing it.”

Selleck’s new memoir, “You Never Know,” is set to be released today, Tuesday, May 7. The midseason finale of “Blue Bloods” Season 14 will air on Friday, May 17 at 10/9c, with the series returning in October for Part 2.
