CBS Announces Tom Selleck’s “Blue Bloods” Will Not Return for Season 15

Despite the cast’s efforts to secure a last-minute renewal, CBS has confirmed that “Blue Bloods” will end after 14 seasons this December. The network announced the show’s conclusion alongside its fall schedule on Thursday.

Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach expressed gratitude for the show’s cast and crew, emphasizing the importance of a proper sendoff. “We want to thank everyone involved in the show,” Reisenbach said. “We will truly miss the family dinners.” She added that while the cast had been advocating for a renewal, the decision to end the series was final.

Reisenbach highlighted the network’s need to refresh its programming lineup, noting, “All shows have to come to an end.” She reiterated that “Blue Bloods” will conclude in December, despite the cast’s passionate efforts to keep it going.

CBS has recently faced criticism for its decisions, including the abrupt cancellation of “NCIS: Hawai’i” without a planned finale, despite the show’s strong ratings.

On a positive note, fans can look forward to a pre-planned conclusion for “Blue Bloods,” with the remainder of Season 14 set to air later this year. The series, which has been a Friday night staple since 2010, will have a fitting farewell that wraps up the Reagan family’s story.

Given the show’s longevity and the changes in the TV landscape, it’s possible that CBS might explore spinoffs in the future. The network’s decision to end “Blue Bloods” reflects the broader challenges facing broadcast TV, including competition from streaming services and the impact on traditional ratings and budgets.
