“Tom Selleck Looks Completely Different After Major Facial Hair Change”

With the final episodes of Blue Bloods already wrapped, Tom Selleck seems to be embracing a more relaxed, vacation mode. The 79-year-old actor was recently spotted running errands in Thousand Oaks, California, looking notably scruffy compared to his usual polished appearance. Sporting his signature mustache along with a full beard and tousled hair, Selleck was almost unrecognizable. His casual outfit of black shorts, a T-shirt, and athletic shoes underscored that this was a leisurely day off for the Emmy-winning star, rather than a professional engagement.

Selleck’s mustache has become iconic, especially from his roles as Thomas Magnum on Magnum, P.I. and Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods. However, he wasn’t always known for his mustache. During his first TV series role on The Young and the Restless, he was clean-shaven. When cast as Frank Reagan, Selleck initially considered appearing without his mustache, thinking it might not fit the character of a New York City police chief. “I said, ‘Well, I don’t think they can have mustaches, so I’ll shave off my mustache,’ and [executive producer] Leonard [Goldberg] said, ‘Let me check with CBS.’ And they said no,”.

Blue Bloods is set to return to CBS for its final eight episodes on Friday, October 18. Selleck has expressed disappointment over the show’s cancellation. In an interview with Parade, he shared, “I love the show, and I haven’t started any kind of countdown because I would prefer to stay optimistic. Leaving a show at its peak is the legacy we need to establish for Blue Bloods because we’re still wildly successful. People need to recognize that if it does end, it’s not because we were winding down; that’s not the case here.” Despite his optimism, CBS decided to end the series, which means Selleck, who has no intention of retiring, can now focus on other projects.

“I see room for more Jesse Stone stories because I’ve written them,” he told Parade. “I love Jesse, and he’s older now. It’s been a while since the last one, and that’s an interesting challenge. Either way, I want to continue working. But right now, I’m still in the middle of filming Blue Bloods.”
