“Kevin Costner Moved to Tears During 10-Minute Standing Ovation for ‘Horizon’ at Cannes”

Kevin Costner Moved to Tears by Cannes Reaction to His 35-Year Project, ‘Horizon: An American Saga’

Kevin Costner was deeply touched by the reception of his new film, Horizon: An American Saga, at its premiere during the Cannes Film Festival on May 19. After 35 years in the making, the four-part Western drama, which spans a 15-year period before and after the American Civil War, received a heartfelt 10-minute standing ovation.

The 69-year-old actor, who co-wrote, directed, and stars in the film, was visibly emotional during his speech. He expressed his profound gratitude for the audience’s reaction, stating that he would “never forget” the moment and appreciated the “precious time” given by those present.

In his address, Costner described the standing ovation as a significant moment not only for him but also for the cast and everyone who supported the project. The film features a notable ensemble cast including Sienna Miller, Jamie Campbell Bower, Ella Hunt, Sam Worthington, Isabelle Fuhrman, and Jena Malone.

Costner was accompanied to the premiere by five of his seven children—Annie, Cayden, Grace, Lily, and Hayes, who makes his acting debut in Horizon. He shared how the experience was memorable for both him and his family, noting their pride and joy in the occasion.

He reflected on the film’s journey, saying, “I made this. It’s not mine anymore. It’s yours. I think movies aren’t about their opening weekends. They’re about their life and how often you’re willing to share them.”

With tears in his eyes, Costner described Horizon as a “miracle” in his life and expressed his gratitude to the audience for their support. He hopes that viewers will continue to share the film with loved ones, extending its impact.

The premiere also came amidst speculation that Costner’s commitment to Horizon contributed to his departure from Yellowstone last year. Addressing these rumors, Costner clarified that the film’s schedule was designed to fit around his Yellowstone commitments, and he had even paused production on Horizon for a month to fulfill his obligations on the show.

Costner expressed frustration over the situation, noting that he felt the production team of Yellowstone was not accommodating. Despite this, he remains hopeful about the possibility of returning to the series if the writing aligns with his vision. “I’m very open to coming back,” he said. “If the writing is there, I will be, too.”

In closing, Costner emphasized his dedication to both projects and his commitment to delivering quality work, regardless of the challenges faced.
