“Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon Reunite at Venice Film Festival: A Heartfelt Catch-Up”

36 Years After “Bull Durham,” Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon Reunite at Venice Film Festival

More than three decades after the release of Ron Shelton’s iconic baseball romance Bull Durham, co-stars Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon came together again at the 81st annual Venice Film Festival.

On Instagram, Costner shared a photo with Sarandon and remarked, “There’s nothing like catching up with an old friend. Great to see you [Susan Sarandon]. We’ve come a long way since our ‘Bull Durham’ days.”

Sarandon was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy for her role in the 1988 film. The reunion took place on September 5 at the Better World Fund’s philanthropy event held at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice. The Better World Fund emphasized the importance of the night on Instagram, stating, “This significant occasion is dedicated to supporting women’s empowerment through the vector of art. With our guests of honor, Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner, the historic and elegant Cipriani Hotel provides the perfect backdrop for this inspiring initiative, promising an unforgettable symphony of art and philanthropy.”

While Sarandon is honored by the Better World Fund, Costner is at the festival to promote the second part of his expansive Western epic Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2. Costner not only directs the film but also stars alongside Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Sam Worthington, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Luke Wilson, and Kathleen Quinlan.

Costner has largely financed both chapters of Horizon himself. The first chapter, made for around $100 million, underperformed at the global box office, earning only about $34 million. Although Chapter 2 is receiving a high-profile debut at Venice, its theatrical release date remains uncertain after being pulled from its original August 16 schedule.
