“Tom Selleck: A Digital-Free Life—No Texts or Emails Ever”

Tom Selleck’s Digital Detox: A Life Unplugged

At 79 years old, Tom Selleck has embraced a lifestyle largely free from digital communication. Although he has occasionally searched for information about himself online while working on his memoir, You Never Know, he has never sent an email or text message. Instead, Selleck relies on his secretary or wife, Jillie, to handle his correspondence.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Selleck shared, “Occasionally I’ve looked up my name, mainly for the book. But I’ve never sent my own email or texted anyone.” He sees his reliance on his wife to manage his texts as a “luxury” that he appreciates, despite finding it challenging to write things down himself.

When not on set, Selleck prefers to avoid television. He spends his time reading scripts for Blue Bloods or tending to his 63-acre ranch in California. He finds solace in his wildflowers, which he has planted over the years and observe through their blooming cycles. “It may sound silly, but I just watch them grow,” he said.

In his quieter moments, Selleck enjoys relaxing with a cigar and a glass of whisky, reflecting on his “very good, very lucky life” with gratitude. However, he has faced hardships, including the devastation caused by droughts that wiped out nearly all of his avocado trees and about 25 century-old oaks. “It just breaks your heart,” he admitted, though he remains hopeful as recent rains have helped the damaged trees recover and flourish again.
