“Tom Selleck Reveals He’s Never Used Email or Text Messaging”

Tom Selleck Reflects on His Nearly 60-Year Career and Reveals His Tech-Free Lifestyle in New Memoir

Tom Selleck is set to reflect on his nearly six-decade career in his upcoming memoir, You Never Know, which will be released on May 7. During promotional interviews, the 79-year-old actor made a surprising revelation about his relationship with technology.

In an exclusive interview with People, Selleck shared, “Occasionally I’ve looked up my name,” referring to Google searches. “That started really with the book, but I’ve never sent my own email. I had a secretary. I’ve never texted anybody.”

Despite his lack of personal engagement with modern technology, Selleck isn’t entirely disconnected. He credits his wife of 37 years, Jillie, for managing his texts. “I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn’t survive otherwise,” he joked about his wife’s support. “But I don’t know. I have a hard time writing things down, which is weird for a guy who’s pushing a book.”

Selleck’s journey into the spotlight began somewhat unexpectedly with a 1965 appearance on The Dating Game as a college senior. From there, he moved on to TV movies and soap operas, eventually landing the iconic role of Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I., which ran for eight seasons from 1980 to 1988.

In contrast to many of his Hollywood peers, Selleck’s career has been marked by a relative lack of scandal. “I don’t have the hooks that a lot of people do,” he noted. “I didn’t rehabilitate myself or have this tragic life. I’ve had my share of ups and downs, but I’ve been very fortunate.”

Currently, Selleck stars in the final season of Blue Bloods, which is concluding a remarkable 14-season run.
