Kevin Costner Shares How He Inspired Son Cayden to Pursue His Dreams While Making Horizon: An American Saga

Kevin Costner is imparting a profound life lesson to his son.

In a recent conversation with Hollywood Authentic about his latest film, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, the 69-year-old actor revealed how his 17-year-old son, Cayden, witnessed his relentless dedication to the project.

Costner reflected on their experience at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where the film premiered. “It’s been a perfect experience,” he shared. “For four days, Cayden saw me work tirelessly on this movie. He’s known about this project throughout his life and witnessed me persist despite the challenges. To see it all come to fruition with the premiere and the audience’s applause was significant for him.”

He added, “It must be surreal for him to see his dad’s hard work pay off, and I hope he recognized the importance of holding on to one’s dreams and continuing to push forward.”

Costner, who has three children with his estranged wife Christine Baumgartner—Cayden, 17; Hayes, 15; and Grace, 14—also has three adult children from his previous marriage to Cindy Silva—Annie, 40; Lily, 37; and Joe, 36—as well as a son, Liam, 26, with former partner Bridget Rooney.

In June, Costner discussed the premiere of the first chapter of the saga, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, with Access Hollywood. There, his son Hayes, who also stars in the film, praised working alongside his father. “It was so fun working with my dad,” Hayes said. “He taught me so much, and it was incredible to see him direct up close, something I hadn’t seen before.”

Costner was visibly moved by his son’s words. “It feels good,” he said, struggling to hold back tears. As he embraced Hayes and donned sunglasses, it was clear how much the praise meant to him.
