Kevin Costner Pledges to Keep the Horizon Film Series Going
Kevin Costner Remains Committed to Horizon Film Series Despite Critical and Box Office Challenges
Kevin Costner remains steadfast in his commitment to the Horizon film series, even though the second installment has been met with critical disappointment. At 69, the acclaimed actor has invested tens of millions of his own funds into this ambitious western epic series, which began with the release of its first chapter in June.
Despite the initial excitement at Cannes, where the first film garnered a nine-minute standing ovation, it ultimately struggled with poor reviews and failed to perform well at the box office.
Last week, Costner premiered the second film of the planned four-part series at the Venice Film Festival, but it too has faced negative reviews. Nevertheless, Costner is undeterred. In an interview with Variety, he expressed his determination to continue, stating, “I have to hurry and not let the rock fall back downhill.”
He elaborated on the challenges, saying, “I’ve gotta go put my hands on it again and start to push it up. It’s a rope that I cannot let go of. I don’t know how I’m gonna make 3 right now, but I’m gonna make it.”
Reflecting on the release difficulties of the first film and their impact on the second installment, Costner commented, “It was probably a reaction to the release of 1 – it didn’t have overwhelming success. That was a studio decision to release it six weeks later, and it became a studio situation to not release it that quickly.”
He remained optimistic, noting that many of his films have gained recognition over time. “It fell back into my plan,” he explained. “I always wanted to release the movies about five, six months apart, which would allow me to come to Venice.”
Currently, the third film in the series is in production and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Additionally, Costner has confirmed that the script for the fourth and final installment is finished.
