“Tom Selleck’s New Role Raises Questions About the Future of Blue Bloods”

Blue Bloods might be on a temporary hiatus due to the Hollywood strikes, but Tom Selleck is staying active with an exciting new project. While the show’s future remains uncertain amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, Selleck has turned his focus to writing his memoir, You Never Know, set to release on May 7, 2024.

Selleck has played Frank Reagan, the New York City police commissioner and family patriarch, on Blue Bloods since its debut in September 2010. The show wrapped up its 13th season in May 2023, and with the current production halt, fans are eagerly waiting to see when it will return. In the meantime, CBS is airing a selection of fan-voted “classic” episodes of the series.

Reflecting on his career, Selleck shared with Entertainment Tonight in November 2022 that he never expected to be part of another long-running primetime drama after Magnum P.I.. He expressed his surprise and satisfaction with Blue Bloods, highlighting its character-driven storytelling as a key factor in its longevity.

In a May 2020 interview with People, Selleck hinted at the potential for more seasons of Blue Bloods, emphasizing that as long as the characters evolve and grow, there’s plenty of life left in the show.

While waiting for Blue Bloods to return, fans can look forward to You Never Know, where Selleck offers an intimate look into his life and career. The memoir promises to share stories of his unexpected rise to fame, including his early days in Hollywood, his college basketball experience, and his journey through the ups and downs of the entertainment industry. “From the USC basketball court to a happy accident in Hollywood, it’s been a long, bumpy road,” Selleck notes. “I figure it’s time to share the ride.”
