“Tom Selleck Criticizes CBS for Its Mixed Signals on the Future of ‘Blue Bloods'”

Tom Selleck, like many fans, isn’t quite ready to say goodbye to Blue Bloods. The beloved police procedural, which first aired in September 2010, is scheduled to conclude after its 14th season in the fall of 2024. However, Selleck, who stars as Police Commissioner Frank Reagan and serves as an executive producer, isn’t convinced this is the final curtain call.

In a recent interview with TV Insider ahead of the season 14 premiere, Selleck shared his sentiments about the show’s ending. “CBS will find that a lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” he remarked. “We’re certainly not out of ideas.”

Despite being 79 years old, Selleck is far from ready to retire. “I’m not counting the days so I can do something else,” he said. “I love the work. Sometimes the hours are a bit harder because I’m older, but so what? I want to keep working as long as they’ll have me.”

With the series finale approaching, the show’s conclusion is still uncertain. Executive producer Kevin Wade admitted to USA Today that the writers have yet to finalize the perfect ending for the show. “We’ll have to figure out how to deliver a satisfying and emotional final episode without dragging it out for three months,” he said. “These characters need to progress in their fictional lives and grow. We have to deliver 18 solid episodes.”

While the end may be emotional for viewers, it won’t be portrayed as a lengthy, soap-opera-like wind-down. “Whatever happens, it’s not going to be a whole season of endless soap operas winding down,” Selleck explained. Yet, he remains skeptical about the finality of the situation. “They say it’s an eight-episode wind-down, and I say, ‘We’ll see,'” Selleck chuckled. “Look, I’ll do whatever is best for the show. But I love this show, obviously. And I think CBS might end up being very conflicted with their current plans.”

Selleck’s forthcoming memoir, set to be released on May 7 and available for pre-order on Amazon, is titled You Never Know. Could this title also hint at the uncertain future of Blue Bloods? Only time will reveal the answer.
