Cole Hauser Advocates for ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff: “Why Not Keep the Momentum Going?”
Cole Hauser is eager for more ‘Yellowstone’ after the conclusion of season 5B, which was initially billed as the series finale on Paramount+.
In a recent interview with Cigar Aficionado, Hauser shared his enthusiasm for a possible spinoff, acknowledging that the decision is ultimately out of his hands. “I don’t make the decisions, brother — I’m a hired gun,” he explained. “Would I like a spinoff? Absolutely. It’s been a joy working with this cast and Taylor Sheridan; why would we stop a good thing?”
His excitement was clear as he added, “Yeah, let’s write it and make it happen!”
Hauser plays Rip Wheeler in the western drama, a character who first met John Dutton (Kevin Costner) as a young boy on the run after killing his stepfather to protect his mother.
According to Deadline, Hauser has been in talks for months with his co-star Kelly Reilly, and discussions are now underway for a sixth season of the flagship series, which could be led by the duo.
A spinoff seems to be on the table, especially after Costner, 69, announced his unexpected departure from the popular series. His fraught relationship with producer Taylor Sheridan has played a role in this exit, with Costner suggesting that the new season might “fall flat” without him.
An insider revealed to Life & Style magazine, “As egotistical as it may sound, without his genius — even in a consulting role — it’s not going to work.”
