Kevin Costner Addresses ‘Yellowstone’ Exit Rumors
Kevin Costner has set the record straight regarding rumors about his departure from the hit series Yellowstone, denying reports of behind-the-scenes conflicts and ego clashes.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Costner shared his deep appreciation for the show, its cast, and the world it represents. He portrayed the lead role of John Dutton for five seasons, and speculation about his exit arose as he prepares for his new project, Horizon: An American Saga.
The future of Yellowstone remains uncertain, with no official announcements regarding its continuation. “When Taylor [Sheridan] first pitched it to me, it was one season, like a long movie, which really resonated with me. But ultimately, the studio had different plans,” Costner explained about his initial commitment.
He noted that Sheridan’s talent as a prolific writer allowed the series to expand. Costner mentioned he initially agreed to extend his role for three seasons but ended up committing to five. He expressed his willingness to continue beyond the fifth season, despite production delays that left him sidelined for 14 months.
“I could have pursued many other opportunities during that time,” he said, reflecting on the unexpected hold-up.
Costner also voiced his disappointment over the lack of support from others amid the swirling allegations about his departure being linked to ego. “I read all the stories and felt let down that no one came forward to defend my contributions,” he remarked. “At some point, I thought, ‘When is someone going to acknowledge what I’ve done versus what I haven’t done?’”
