Tom Selleck Reunites with ‘Magnum P.I.’ Co-Star Larry Manetti on ‘Blue Bloods’
Tom Selleck Reunites with Old Friend Larry Manetti!
Tom Selleck, 78, is set to reunite with his former Magnum P.I. co-star Larry Manetti on an upcoming episode of Blue Bloods, where he portrays New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan.
The exciting news was shared by Selleck’s Blue Bloods co-star, Donnie Wahlberg, in an Instagram post featuring a group photo of the cast. “#MagnumMonday!” Wahlberg captioned the post. “It’s a mini Magnum P.I. reunion on the set of #BlueBloods this week, with guest star Larry Manetti & Tom Selleck — together again.” The photo captures the two actors smiling alongside current cast members including Bridget Moynahan, Andrew Terraciano, Will Estes, and Vanessa Ray.
This upcoming episode marks the first onscreen reunion for the duo, who starred together on Magnum P.I. during its eight-season run from 1980 to 1988. Manetti, 75, played Orville “Rick” Wright, while Selleck took on the iconic role of private investigator Thomas Magnum. Although both actors found great success through the series, Selleck eventually stepped away to seek a more private life.
“I knew intellectually what it would mean in terms of being a public person, but until you’ve lived it, there’s no way to understand it,” he reflected in a 2020 interview with PEOPLE. “I quit Magnum not because I didn’t like it, but because I wanted a three-dimensional life.”
Since returning to acting a few years later, Selleck has expressed his belief that Blue Bloods has a bright future. “There is a lot of life in the show, as long as you let your characters grow and get older,” he noted, highlighting the evolution of the series. “It started as a character-driven show, and it’s even more than that now. The audience is really inside the main characters’ heads.”
As Blue Bloods enters its 13th season, fans are eagerly anticipating this special reunion!
