“‘The Wild Robot’ Surpasses Kevin Costner’s Western Flop at the Box Office”

A Wild Success: ‘The Wild Robot’ Soars at the Box Office, Outpacing Costner’s Western Flop

With an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score and rave reviews from critics, DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot is exceeding expectations during its theatrical debut. In just three days, it has amassed over $53 million, split between $35 million domestically and $18 million internationally. This domestic total already surpasses notable 2024 releases, including Kevin Costner’s lackluster Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, which managed only $29 million nationwide.

Currently ranked 32nd among the biggest domestic hits of 2024, The Wild Robot is climbing the box office ranks, with the potential to break into the top 10 soon, reinforcing 2024 as a stellar year for animated films.

Director Chris Sanders Finds the Perfect Fit with ‘The Wild Robot’

Three-time Academy Award nominee Chris Sanders, known for his work on Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, has a stellar reputation in animation. His talent for blending stunning visuals with heartfelt narratives made him an ideal choice for adapting Peter Brown’s beloved story. In a conversation with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Sanders shared his excitement about the project, noting how well it resonated with him as a filmmaker.

“The characters Peter created really felt right for me. There were elements that I was comfortable with, yet many that were new and exciting. The challenge of working with a robotic character and telling a story about a robot that becomes a mother was fresh and unusual, which keeps storytelling exciting. Those elements were the main draws for me,” Sanders explained.

The Wild Robot has officially surpassed Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 at the domestic box office. Don’t miss this animated gem, now playing in theaters!
