Kevin Costner Channels Heartbreak into Revenge Music: He ‘Never Forgets’ Ex Christine Baumgartner
Kevin Costner’s tumultuous divorce from Christine Baumgartner has sparked a wave of creativity in his music, with sources telling Life & Style that he’s writing a revenge song aimed at his ex-wife, whom he views as a gold digger.
“Kevin has a dedicated musical following, and people will be interested to know that his heart still hasn’t healed—he’s got a lot of pent-up frustration to express,” a source revealed about the 69-year-old singer of Kevin Costner & Modern West. “This is his opportunity to vent and share his perspective without coming off as a total jerk.”
The actor married the model and handbag designer, now 50, on September 25, 2004, but their relationship soured when Christine filed for divorce in May 2023. Their split involved multiple court appearances to settle various terms, including child support payments. Christine initially sought $248,000 a month to maintain their children’s lifestyle, prompting Kevin to label her request as “inflated” to support her extravagant habits.
The couple’s power struggle continued, with Christine refusing to leave their home until a judge ordered her to do so. During this time, she was spotted on a Hawaiian beach with their children and later photographed with financier Josh Connor, who lives near the former couple in California.
Ultimately, Kevin was ordered to pay $63,209 per month in child support, while Christine was responsible for a portion of Kevin’s attorney fees, totaling just over $14,000. With the legal battles behind him, Kevin is now ready to channel his feelings into music.
“He takes his songwriting seriously, and he has a lot on his mind,” the insider noted. “Christine betrayed him, associated with his former friend, and tried to take advantage of him financially. He doesn’t easily forget situations like that. Kevin feels like he’s been kicked in the gut. While he’s not one to gossip, turning his experiences into lyrics and music is his way of telling his story.”
In the aftermath of a costly divorce, Kevin may need to reevaluate his finances and consider selling some of his assets. A separate source recently told Life & Style that Kevin faces a daunting $100 million debt due to the disappointing performance of his film, Horizon. While he initially banked on undeveloped California land to cover expenses, reality is setting in, and he may need to part with some properties to maintain financial stability.
“Kevin is reorganizing his life and finances around funding the Horizon project for a couple more years,” the insider explained. “He knows he may have to let go of some valuable assets to see this through.”
