“Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon 2’ August Theatrical Release Shelved Following First Film’s Underwhelming Box Office Performance”
Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2” will not be hitting theaters on August 16 as originally planned. Territory Pictures and New Line Cinema have decided to delay the release of the second film to allow audiences more time to experience the first installment, which will continue to be available in theaters and on PVOD and Max.
The initial release of “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” generated a modest $23 million in its first two weeks, prompting the studio to adjust their plans. Kevin Costner invested $38 million of his own money into the project, which he not only starred in but also directed and co-wrote with John Baird. The first film will be available for streaming on Premium VOD starting Tuesday.
Costner’s dedication to the Western genre is evident in this project, which he has been developing for nearly three decades. Reflecting on his journey, Costner recently shared clips from his 1985 film “Silverado” on Instagram, celebrating the release of the iconic Western and expressing his continued passion for the genre.
“39 years ago today we released Silverado into the world. It was a dream come true for me to be in a Western movie, and to have Lawrence Kasdan at the helm was the cherry on top,” Costner wrote in his post.
