Kevin Costner Set to Star in New Surfing Thriller After Leaving ‘Yellowstone’
Kevin Costner’s departure from Yellowstone has been a hot topic for months, but the two-time Oscar winner isn’t slowing down. According to a report from THR, Costner will star in and co-write the script for Headhunters, an upcoming surfing thriller. In the film, he’ll portray Lazer, a down-and-out American ex-pat with a mysterious background living in Indonesia. Lazer hires a group of surfers to explore an uncharted island in search of the “perfect wave,” only to discover that the island is fiercely protected by its native inhabitants. The official logline describes the film as an “adventure-turned-survival story of epic and bloody proportions on a tropical island that initially seems like paradise but reveals a darker truth.”
Daniel Zovatto will also feature in the cast. Costner is co-writing the screenplay with Steve Holleran, who will make his feature directorial and writing debut with this project. Holleran has previously worked as a cinematographer on notable films like Sympathy for the Devil, starring Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman, and Missing, featuring Nia Long and Storm Reid. Recently, Costner made his own screenwriting debut with Horizon: An American Saga – Chapters 1 and 2 and is also writing an untitled project directed by Ariel Vromen. Additionally, he is set to pen the script for the upcoming crime drama ISB, although details about that project remain scarce.
