How Much Longer Will ‘Slow Horses’ Continue Beyond Season 5?

“I can’t imagine Slough House without Lamb,” says Will Smith, executive producer of Slow Horses. The good news is that Apple TV+ has already renewed the spy thriller for Season 5, and it seems Gary Oldman isn’t ready to say goodbye just yet.

Each season of Slow Horses has adapted one of Mick Herron’s novels: Slow Horses, Dead Lions, Real Tigers, and Spook Street. Season 5 will be based on London Rules, which involves the team at Slough House navigating a series of strange events sparked by tech expert Roddy Ho’s new girlfriend. The synopsis teases, “As suspicions grow, it falls to the Slow Horses to uncover how everything connects, proving that in the world of espionage, the ‘London Rules’ are always in play.”

With eight novels and five novellas currently in the series, fans are wondering how long the show might run. “Mick has mentioned the possibility of standalone stories beyond the books, so that’s definitely on the table,” Smith tells TV Insider. He adds that Gary has expressed a desire to portray Lamb indefinitely, and with Mick still writing, there’s potential for the series to continue as long as there’s interest. Smith notes there’s a wealth of material in the Slough House universe, including novels that introduce characters who later play key roles in the main series.

Smith also revealed a fun idea from Oldman and his wife, Gisele Schmidt, for a Slough House advent calendar featuring 25 short scenes throughout December, allowing for a playful exploration of the timeline. However, with the current tight production schedule, they’re focused on delivering the series as quickly as possible.
