“Katrina Law Teases ‘Unique’ Timey-Wimey Premiere for NCIS Season 22 with ‘Big Cliffhanger'”

NCIS Season 22 Premiere Preview: Time Jumps and Cliffhangers Await

Season 22 of NCIS kicks off this Monday at a special time (8/7c on CBS), picking up six months after Jessica said goodbye to D.C. and her boyfriend Jimmy Palmer to lead the REACT Team at Camp Pendleton.

Katrina Law, who plays Knight, shared insights with TVLine, revealing that her departure triggered a series of changes for the rest of the NCIS team. “Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) is back undercover, while McGee (Sean Murray) is interviewing for a new job as NCIS Deputy Director,” she explains. This leaves Parker (Gary Cole) alone at his desk, surrounded by empty spaces where his colleagues used to be.

This shift is reflected in the season premiere’s title: “Empty Nest.”

Meanwhile, Knight is deeply engaged in her REACT role and experiencing significant personal growth. “She’s breaking free from living in her powerful father’s shadow,” Law notes. “Now, she’s making decisions entirely for herself, which is liberating but also comes with the weight of her choices.”

The premiere begins with a dramatic twist: Knight is holding a clergyman hostage at the REACT Training Center, demanding legal representation to address her predicament. Instead of using the typical flashback method, the episode unfolds in real-time, interspersed with flashbacks that reveal how Knight ended up in this tense situation. “It creates an exciting dynamic of truth and trust,” Law teases.

As the hostage situation develops, viewers will also get a glimpse of Jessica and Jimmy’s relationship, which had been shaky before her move to San Diego. “You will get a sense of where they stand,” Law confirms, adding that Jimmy’s daughter has been instrumental in keeping them connected. “Victoria is definitely on Team #KnightInShiningPalmer.”

Back in D.C., Vance (Rocky Carroll) and McGee’s attempts to support Torres with his undercover mission will be complicated by a new character, Inspector General LaRoche, played by Seamus Dever.

As for whether Knight’s hostage crisis could lead her back to Parker’s team, Law remains tight-lipped but hints at a significant cliffhanger. “We’ll have some questions answered by the end of the premiere,” she reveals, “but one big cliffhanger will carry us through the season.”
