“Harrison Ford: I Act for the Essential Human Connection”
At 82, Harrison Ford expresses his gratitude for continuing to act, highlighting the “essential human contact” it brings him.
In a recent Vanity Fair interview, he shared, “I get to imagine with people who have great skill and experience… It’s fun to work with these people.” Ford, renowned for his iconic roles as Han Solo and Indiana Jones, stars alongside Jason Segel and Jessica Williams in the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking.”
In the show, Ford portrays Dr. Paul Rhoades, a senior therapist and colleague of Jimmy (played by Segel) at the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center. He also reflected on his approach to Han Solo, describing him as a character “deeply committed to his ignorance.” Ford noted that Han’s sense of humor was crucial for the audience’s enjoyment, emphasizing the physicality he brought to the role: “I always felt that he was barely containing his physical impulses.”
Despite his appearances in action-packed films, Ford considers much of his work to be comedic in nature. “I’m a silly person,” he stated. “As far as I’m concerned, everything I’ve ever done is comedy.” He explained that he approaches both jokes and serious scenes with the same mindset.
Bill Lawrence, co-creator of “Shrinking,” praised Ford’s willingness to dive into comedic moments, citing an example from the show where Ford’s character misunderstands the term “raw-dogging.” Initially hesitant, Ford agreed to the scene, which ultimately elicited great laughter from the crew as his character repeatedly misuses the term.
