“Kevin Costner Expresses Gratitude for ‘Another Birthday’ in Emotional Tribute to Former Co-Star”
Kevin Costner marked his 70th birthday on January 18 by sharing a heartfelt tribute to his late co-star Whitney Houston, reflecting on their time together and the impact she had on his life.
The actor, who recently exited Yellowstone amid controversy, looked back on his career and life as he celebrated the milestone. Costner and Houston famously starred together in the 1992 romantic thriller The Bodyguard, which became a box-office sensation and earned two Academy Award nominations.
To commemorate the occasion, Houston’s estate shared a nostalgic behind-the-scenes photo of the pair during the film’s production, alongside Ellin LaVar, the film’s hairstylist. Costner reposted the image to his Instagram Stories, adding a touching message: “This photo reminds me of how lucky I am to be getting another birthday. We lost such a light when we lost Whitney.” Houston passed away in 2012 at the age of 48, and Costner has continually paid tribute to the beloved singer ever since.
In 2024, Costner was moved by Dionne Warwick’s request to deliver a powerful 17-minute eulogy at a memorial for Houston at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Reflecting on the event, he recalled, “I remember being in the pews, and I had never been in a church that was more electric. Two bands were playing … I thought this place was on fire.”
For his birthday, Costner also shared a childhood photo of himself dressed as a cowboy, recalling his early love for the Western lifestyle. He wrote: “Thank you for the birthday wishes. If you can believe it, this is me. I was chasing the cowboy life just about as soon as I could walk, and here I am doing it still.”
In recent months, Costner has embraced life beyond Yellowstone, focusing on his family and fatherhood. In December 2024, he shared a rare glimpse into his personal life, posting a heartfelt Thanksgiving message about the special memories he made with his children. “At the top of my ‘grateful for’ list are the many, really special memories I’ve gotten to make with my kids this year,” he wrote. “Here’s to a holiday season dedicated to making more.”
