“Santa Barbara Film Fest to Debut U.S. Premiere of Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2’”

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2, the highly anticipated second installment in his sweeping western series, will have its U.S. premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last summer, the film arrives on the heels of Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1, which debuted last spring at the Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Costner discussed the epic project in-depth during a live recording of THR’s Awards Chatter podcast.

On February 7, the Santa Barbara festival will screen the first Horizon film at 2 p.m., followed by the U.S. premiere of Chapter 2 at 6 p.m., both at the Arlington Theatre. After the second screening, Costner — a local Santa Barbara resident who co-wrote, directed, produced, and stars in the film — will participate in a Q&A moderated by SBIFF executive director Roger Durling. Additionally, on February 13 at 8:20 p.m., the festival will showcase Beyond the Horizon, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the film, followed by a Q&A with Costner and the documentary’s director, Mark Gillard, moderated by SBIFF programming director Claudia Puig.

The combined budget for the two Horizon films is reported to be $100 million, with Costner personally contributing $38 million. The first film grossed a disappointing $38 million worldwide, raising concerns about the release of the second installment and the future of the planned third and fourth chapters.
