“One of My Biggest Hopes for Tom Selleck After Blue Bloods Might Actually Be Coming True”

It looks like one of my biggest hopes for Tom Selleck after Blue Bloods wraps up is actually coming true. Selleck has spent fourteen years playing Frank Reagan on CBS’ top-rated cop and family drama, but now that the series is coming to an end—despite its strong ratings—he’s free to explore new projects. With just a few episodes left before Blue Bloods concludes, Selleck and the rest of the cast are looking toward fresh opportunities after playing the same roles for over a decade. I’ve been following his career since before I started my own, and I’m certain we’ll see Selleck back on our screens soon.

Selleck’s talents have been widely recognized since the 1980s, especially for his iconic role in Magnum, P.I. But to me, no one else could ever play Frank Reagan. In addition to acting, Selleck has proven himself as a writer and producer, co-writing all the scripts for the Jesse Stone movie series. What I find especially intriguing is how different his portrayal of Jesse Stone is compared to his role as Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods—they’re two distinct characters, and that range shows just how versatile Selleck truly is.

Tom Selleck May Return to Jesse Stone After Blue Bloods Ends
When Selleck first began his role on Blue Bloods, he hoped to continue making Jesse Stone films. However, with his commitment to the show, that didn’t happen, and the last film in the series was Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise in 2015. For years, I had lost hope of seeing another Jesse Stone movie, especially as Blue Bloods gained popularity and showed no signs of slowing down. But now, with Blue Bloods ending, Selleck could finally bring the character back—and he’s open to doing so. Even more exciting is that Selleck has mentioned the next Jesse Stone movie “wouldn’t be the final one.” While it would be bittersweet if it were the last in the series, the possibility of more Jesse Stone films for years to come gives me something to look forward to after Blue Bloods wraps up.

A Long-Awaited Return to Jesse Stone
Lost in Paradise didn’t feel like a final chapter in Jesse Stone’s story. The movie ended on an open note, with Jesse and his dog sitting together, implying that another case could come at any moment. Even though it’s been nearly ten years, I still think about that ending often, wondering what’s next for Jesse. The idea of a new Jesse Stone movie is exciting and fills the gap left by Blue Bloods’ conclusion.

It’s clear Selleck made the right decision by not rushing into another Jesse Stone movie while juggling Blue Bloods. He was balancing a demanding full-time role, and I appreciate that he didn’t want to produce a rushed, subpar film. Now that he’s no longer tied to Blue Bloods, he can give Jesse Stone the attention it deserves, and I’m thrilled to see what he comes up with.

The Bittersweet End of Blue Bloods
Although I’m excited about the possibility of more Jesse Stone films, I can’t help but feel heartbroken over the end of Blue Bloods. It was the show I most looked forward to each week, especially for its portrayal of the Reagan family bond. The family dinners, though often too brief, became a comforting staple of every episode. Family dramas like Blue Bloods are becoming increasingly rare on TV, so the show’s cancellation leaves a significant void that will be tough to fill.

It would have been easier to accept the end of Blue Bloods if Selleck and the rest of the cast had chosen to wrap up the series on their own terms. Unfortunately, CBS canceled the show despite a passionate fanbase and the dedication of the cast and crew. It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially knowing how much Blue Bloods meant to its fans. But with Selleck now free to return to Jesse Stone, there’s at least a silver lining to look forward to.
