“Kevin Costner Looks to Netflix to Help With ‘Horizon’ Debt: A ‘Hole He’s Dug for Himself’”

Kevin Costner is seeing a glimmer of hope with his costly project Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One, as it gains strong viewership on Netflix. However, he’s still facing significant financial strain, having invested tens of millions of dollars of his own money, and is reportedly hoping Netflix will come to his rescue by buying him out. This could help him clear his debts and regain some much-needed confidence, according to an exclusive source speaking with Life & Style.

“Kevin may appear calm and collected on the surface, but behind the scenes, the Horizon project has been incredibly stressful for him, both financially and emotionally,” says an insider who has worked closely with the 70-year-old actor-director on the multi-part Western series. Despite a disappointing theatrical debut and mixed critical response, Chapter One has found an audience on streaming platforms, helping Kevin recover some of the $60 million he personally invested in the film. The second installment, which was well-received on the film festival circuit, was pulled before it could hit theaters due to the lackluster performance of the first part and still has no official release date.

Although Kevin is still trying to understand why the theatrical release didn’t resonate with audiences, he’s pressing forward with the rest of the saga. The success of Chapter One on Netflix has brought some relief, landing the film in the streaming platform’s top 10. “For Kevin and his team, Netflix’s success is crucial, because right now, Netflix is the only company with enough resources to help him finish the saga without sinking further into debt,” the source adds. At one point, Kevin even considered selling off real estate holdings to fund his passion project.

If Horizon continues to perform well, there’s speculation within Hollywood circles that Netflix may eventually step in to buy the rights to the entire series and relieve Kevin of his financial burden. It would be a significant win for Costner, but also an ironic twist, as he initially envisioned Horizon as a streaming series. It was only after the success of Yellowstone that Kevin decided to turn the idea into a series of high-budget films. With Horizon still in the red, Kevin is holding out hope that Netflix’s support will not only help him recover but will also bring the films to a global audience. However, much depends on the continued performance of the movie on the platform.
