“Will the Yellowstone Franchise Ever Move Beyond Kevin Costner’s Legacy?”

Although there are several spinoffs in development for the Yellowstone franchise, I honestly don’t think it will ever fully escape Kevin Costner’s shadow. Fans were highly critical of the second half of the final season, even though it largely followed the conclusion Taylor Sheridan had envisioned, just accelerated. With Costner continuing to shine in his role with Horizon: An American Saga, his connection to the Western genre will remain a strong competitor to Sheridan’s work. Moreover, one of the upcoming spinoffs will focus on Beth and Rip—essentially acting as Yellowstone season 6. Since these two characters were among the most loyal to Costner’s John Dutton III, his legacy will likely loom even larger in that series than in the others.
