“Tom Selleck Expresses Nostalgia for ‘Blue Bloods’ Cast and Crew as CBS Concludes the Show After Season 14”
Tom Selleck’s 80th birthday is just around the corner, and despite Blue Bloods coming to an end, the TV legend isn’t ready to step back from his career anytime soon.
An insider exclusively revealed that Tom already misses his Blue Bloods cast and crew and has shown interest in keeping the franchise alive. “He’d definitely be open to a spinoff or a TV movie,” the source shared.
Blue Bloods wrapped up its final episode on December 13, 2024, with Tom’s character, Frank Reagan, learning he would soon become a grandfather once again after Jamie Reagan and Eddie Janko-Reagan revealed they were expecting their first child. After the series finale aired, Tom, 79, opened up about the emotional challenge of saying goodbye to the show he starred in for 14 seasons.
“The hardest part right now is that I’d usually be filming episodes of Blue Bloods this time of year, and I miss that,” the Emmy-winning actor admitted on December 14, 2024. “What I miss most is the family of actors we had and the friendships we formed. It’s like high school graduation – you say you’ll stay in touch, but life happens, and it’s the same in movies. You make connections, and then it’s over.”
The bonds he formed with his castmates, both on-screen and off, made the end of the show even more difficult for Tom.
“This one’s more complicated,” he explained. “It was a 15-year relationship with most of those people, and it doesn’t just fade away quickly. On a movie, you might say, ‘Let’s keep in touch,’ but then you get busy or work elsewhere, and years go by. This is a bigger adjustment.”
Although CBS has yet to announce an official Blue Bloods spinoff, several cast members have expressed interest in continuing the story. A source told that Tom is hopeful the network will present him with a new show soon.
“The good news is CBS is open to the idea,” the source said. “They’ve always catered to an older demographic that’s followed Tom since his Magnum P.I. days. The only reason Blue Bloods is ending is that it had become expensive with a large cast and crew. A new show with a smaller ensemble makes more sense, and Tom is eager to keep working into his 80s. He absolutely has no intention of retiring anytime soon!”
