“Tom Selleck Struggles with Saying Goodbye to ‘Blue Bloods’ Cast: ‘I Can’t Imagine Not Seeing Them Again'”

Tom Selleck is still deeply affected by the cancellation of Blue Bloods, but he remains in constant contact with his co-stars, determined to hold onto his TV family for as long as they’ll keep in touch, an insider reveals.

“Tom has formed a tight bond with these people over nearly 15 years of working together. It’s more than just a regular job; sometimes, they’d be on set for 15 hours a day. They’ve shared so much, and it’s hard for him to imagine saying goodbye and never seeing them again. He’s doing everything he can to stay connected,” the source explains.

At 79, the seasoned actor has expressed his sadness over the show’s end. During a panel at The Paley Center for Media, Tom shared his thoughts about the series’ final season. “I hope the audience takes away that this is a show worth watching,” he said. “I’ve always believed in broadcast television, even though it seems to have been pushed to the back. Not everyone wants to spend their evening scrolling through endless options. I’m proud of what we did.”

Tom’s bond with Donnie Wahlberg, who played his son on the show, has grown especially strong. According to the source, “Tom is very close to Donnie, and their father-son dynamic went beyond acting.” “He loves giving Donnie advice, and they text each other all day, always checking in,” the insider adds.

Tom also shares a close relationship with Bridget Moynahan, calling her a “second daughter.” “He and his wife, Jillie, are incredibly protective and proud of her. They’re very close with all the cast members and are even considering hosting a watch party for the final episode next month.”

A key element of Blue Bloods was the family dinner scene, which brought the cast together each week. Reflecting on the cancellation, Tom expressed his sadness, saying, “What I miss the most is my friends, my actor family. We had a team. It’s like high school—you always say, ‘We’ll stay in touch,’ but it rarely works out. Now, that opportunity to see everyone every eight days is gone. That’s something we’ll miss.”

The end of the show has left Tom feeling like he’s losing a part of his real family. “He really doesn’t want to let these relationships go,” the source says. “He’s having a tough time accepting that it’s really over and hasn’t given up hope on a potential spin-off. He’d love to work with them all again.”
