Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon Reunite at Venice Film Festival: A ‘Bull Durham’ Throwback

Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon Reunite at Venice Film Festival, 36 Years After Bull Durham

Over three decades after captivating audiences in Ron Shelton’s 1988 baseball romance Bull Durham, Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon reunited at the 81st Venice Film Festival.

“There’s nothing like catching up with an old friend,” Costner wrote on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt photo with Sarandon. “Great to see you, [Susan Sarandon] — we’ve come a long way since our Bull Durham days.” Sarandon earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the beloved film.

The reunion took place on September 5 during the Better World Fund’s philanthropic event at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice. The organization described the evening as “a significant occasion dedicated to supporting women’s empowerment through the vector of art,” with both actors attending as guests of honor.

Sarandon was recognized for her contributions to the arts and advocacy, while Costner attended the festival to promote Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, the next installment in his ambitious Western saga. Costner not only directs and stars in the project — alongside Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Sam Worthington, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Luke Wilson, and Kathleen Quinlan — but has also largely self-funded both films.

Despite its $100 million budget, Horizon: Chapter 1 underperformed at the global box office, grossing just $34 million. Still, Chapter 2 is set to premiere in Venice with high hopes and considerable fanfare.
