New Secret ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Off from Taylor Sheridan Reportedly in the Works

The Yellowstone Universe Expands: Is Taylor Sheridan Filming a Secret New Spin-Off in Texas?

The Yellowstone franchise has become one of the most successful Western sagas in television history, and Paramount shows no signs of slowing down. With multiple spin-offs already announced, rumors are now swirling about yet another secret project—possibly a new installment in Taylor Sheridan’s expanding universe.

Reports suggest that Sheridan has chosen Ferris, Texas—a small town about 20 miles south of Dallas with a population of around 5,000—as the filming location for a new series currently operating under the working title Rio Palo (Spanish for “Stick River”). While this title may just be a placeholder, speculation is growing about whether this is a brand-new series or one of the already-announced spin-offs under a different name.

In a recent statement, city officials in Ferris expressed pride in hosting the production:

“Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward… We are just getting started.”

According to a press release, filming will take place across various parts of the city, with one location serving as the central home of the show’s lead characters. However, no cast details have been revealed, and there’s no official confirmation on how this project ties into the larger Yellowstone universe.

So, What Is Rio Palo?

At this stage, the mystery remains. Sheridan already has several spin-offs in development, including:

  • Y: Marshals, starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton
  • The Dutton Ranch, featuring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth and Rip
  • The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer (already filmed)
  • 6666, centered on the legendary Four Sixes Ranch
  • 1944, another historical prequel

Of these, the most likely candidate for Rio Palo is The Dutton Ranch, the Beth and Rip spin-off that was originally slated for a 2025 release but has since been delayed to 2026. This theory is backed by a report from Country Living, which cites confirmation from 101 Studios—the production company behind Sheridan’s shows—that the Ferris shoot is indeed for the Beth and Rip series.

Still, as with most things in the Yellowstone universe, secrecy is part of the strategy. Until more is officially confirmed, fans will have to keep guessing. With Taylor Sheridan at the helm, anything is possible.
