One Year After ‘Yellowstone,’ Kevin Costner Speaks Honestly About Retirement
Kevin Costner recently opened up about retirement, a year after leaving his hit series Yellowstone. The 70-year-old actor revealed that stepping away from work isn’t on his radar anytime soon.
“I don’t even think about retiring,” Costner said. “I just move on to whatever sparks my imagination next.”
He explained that his creative drive comes from passion rather than external pressure. “It’s my imagination that guides me, not a boss,” he shared.
Reflecting on his career, Costner expressed gratitude for his success but acknowledged that everyone’s path is different. “I’ve been very lucky, and I like to think I earned it, but not everyone follows the same blueprint,” he said.
When asked about having a bucket list — things to accomplish or experience before the end — Costner gave a surprising answer. “I do have a list, but I don’t think of it as a bucket list,” he explained. “My eyes and enthusiasms are wide open, and there’s so much I want to explore.”
Costner exited Yellowstone after four and a half seasons, with his character John Dutton written off in Season 5. His departure came amid creative differences with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, and some scheduling conflicts.
Over his illustrious career, Costner has earned two Oscars — for Best Picture and Best Director — thanks to the 1990 classic Dances With Wolves. He’s also known for iconic roles in films like The Untouchables, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, JFK, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Bodyguard, and A Perfect World.
Fans can rest easy knowing Costner isn’t planning to retire anytime soon, and there’s plenty more to look forward to from the legendary actor.
