History Channel’s Latest Docuseries Features Dr. Yohuru Williams and Kevin Costner
Dr. Yohuru Williams Featured in Kevin Costner’s History Channel Docuseries The West
Dr. Yohuru Williams, founding director of the Racial Justice Initiative at the University of St. Thomas, is featured in The West, a new eight-part docuseries executive produced by actor Kevin Costner and Pulitzer Prize–winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.
The West takes a deep dive into the complex and often mythologized history of America’s westward expansion. Dr. Williams appears throughout the series, offering expert commentary that helps unpack the layered narratives and longstanding myths surrounding this pivotal era in U.S. history.
“I’m both humbled and excited,” said Williams, who is a frequent contributor to History Channel programming. He was featured in the series’ official trailer and highlighted in early national media coverage. In May, he also attended the red carpet premiere in Los Angeles, where he joined fellow historians, cast members, and producers to celebrate the launch.
The docuseries is currently airing on the History Channel and is available for streaming, with a broad national audience expected to tune in.
