Kevin Costner and Cast Celebrate U.S. Premiere of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 at Santa Barbara Film Festival
American West Epic Features Sienna Miller, Abbey Lee, Georgia MacPhail, and Luke Wilson
Kevin Costner’s deeply personal project — Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 — had its U.S. premiere Friday night at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF). A longtime Padaro Lane resident, Costner is known locally not just for his Hollywood legacy, but for his generous community involvement — including hosting charitable events at his beachfront home to benefit causes like first responders.
Horizon, an ambitious four-part cinematic saga chronicling the settlement of the American West, sees Costner not only in the lead role but also as the film’s writer, director, and producer.
Following the premiere screening, SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling led a panel discussion with Costner, composer John Debney, and costume designer Lisa Lovaas. Several cast members were in attendance, including Luke Wilson, Michael Rooker, Georgia MacPhail, Wasé Chief, and Alejandro Edda.
A number of special guests and Hollywood names also walked the red carpet, including Quentin Tarantino, Zachary Levi, Maggie Grace, Maria Bakalova, Lyndell Chee, Angela Sarafyan, Shawn Patterson, and Adam Carolla.
Closing the evening, Costner shared heartfelt remarks with the audience:
“I’m a romantic about what we can be and what we are. I would also like to just say to you as we end the night, thank you for honoring the film and filling this theater. I want to thank Roger — he brought films from around the world here. I just want to note, this is my home, this is where I make my home, and you made me feel like a giant tonight. Thank you!”
