Kevin Costner Feels Betrayed by Yellowstone Co-Stars Cole Hauser & Kelly Reilly: “It’s Like a Knife to the Heart”
Is Kevin Costner Hurt by Yellowstone Co-Stars Cole Hauser & Kelly Reilly’s Behavior? Here’s What We Know
Yellowstone recently came to an end with the final episode of Season 5, marking the conclusion of one of television’s most successful neo-Western dramas. While fans celebrated the series, things behind the scenes were far from smooth—especially for leading man Kevin Costner.
Costner, who played patriarch John Dutton, exited the series during its fifth season amid tensions with Yellowstone creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan. Although he may have left the show behind professionally, it appears the emotional fallout still lingers—particularly when it comes to his relationships with former co-stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly.
Feeling Betrayed?
Costner feels deeply hurt by how his castmates, especially Hauser (Rip Wheeler) and Reilly (Beth Dutton), acted following his departure. A source close to the actor claims he feels ignored by the people he once considered close.
“Kevin’s tried to put a brave face on it, but there’s no denying this real lack of love is bothering him,” the source shared.
“He’s been stabbed in the heart time and time again.”
Costner reportedly feels that the loyalty he expected from Hauser and Reilly never materialized. With the two actors now riding high on the success of their own Yellowstone spinoff, it’s alleged they’ve grown distant from their former co-star.
“They’re focused on their own careers and don’t have time for an ‘old sourpuss’ like Kevin,” the source added.
Shifting Loyalties
Costner is said to be aware of where the industry’s allegiances lie—and feels he’s no longer a part of that inner circle. To add insult to injury, actor Tom Selleck is rumored to be cozying up to Taylor Sheridan in hopes of landing a role in future Yellowstone projects.
“It seems everyone is moving forward and thriving, while Kevin’s been left behind,” the insider claimed.
Personal & Professional Struggles
Beyond the Yellowstone drama, Costner has also faced setbacks in both his personal and professional life. His ambitious, self-funded film project Horizon—a planned trilogy—has struggled financially. The first installment failed to break even, putting pressure on the second film, which is already set for a 2025 release after its debut at the Venice Film Festival.
On the personal front, Costner finalized his divorce from Christine Baumgartner in February 2024. The former couple shares three children, and the split marked another difficult chapter in the actor’s life.
