Kevin Costner Accused of ‘Mansplaining’ Stuntwoman’s Sexual Harassment Experience
Ongoing Legal Battle Between Kevin Costner and Devyn LaBella Heats Up
The legal feud between actor Kevin Costner and professional stuntwoman Devyn LaBella continues to intensify, with LaBella standing firm on her claims and her legal team accusing Costner’s camp of trying to distort her experience.
LaBella alleges she was subjected to an unscripted and distressing rape scene during filming—an incident she says left her shaken and emotionally disturbed. Her legal representatives argue that her version of events has remained consistent from the beginning, despite alleged attempts by Costner’s legal team to undermine and manipulate the narrative.
LaBella’s Legal Team Responds Forcefully
LaBella’s attorney pushed back against what they describe as repeated efforts to “gaslight” the stuntwoman into questioning her own experience.
“It’s disturbing to see the defendants continue to ‘mansplain’ to Devyn what her own experience was on set. She has sworn under oath to the truth and produced contemporaneous evidence to support her account,” the attorney stated.
According to her team, LaBella immediately reported the incident to production in 2023 and has not altered her story since. They allege Costner’s side is working hard to discredit her through misrepresentation and misdirection.
Costner’s Legal Response
In response, Costner’s legal team is urging the court to dismiss LaBella’s lawsuit entirely. They claim her statements have been inconsistent—particularly regarding whether she was informed in advance about the scene’s content.
Initially, LaBella claimed she was unexpectedly pushed into filming the rape scene without any prior warning. However, Costner’s team points to newer statements suggesting that a stunt coordinator, Wade Allen, had met with her beforehand to walk her through the scene.
Additionally, Costner’s lawyers assert that LaBella previously acknowledged she was fully aware of what the scene involved, including the staging inside a covered wagon and the level of physical contact involved.
They argue that this alleged shift in narrative justifies throwing out the lawsuit.
Costner’s Legal Team Pushes Back
Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer, continues to argue for the actor’s innocence and has reiterated that multiple eyewitnesses are prepared to testify against LaBella’s claims.
“We have at least 12 witnesses who can dispute the allegations and confirm that none of it happened the way Ms. LaBella claims,” Singer said. He added that Costner is ready to be fully transparent about what occurred during the filming of Horizon 2.
Graphic Allegations from the Set
In the lawsuit, LaBella detailed the physical and emotional toll of filming the scene. She claimed her undergarments were forcibly torn during a physically intense scene and described actor Roger Ivens as pinning her down and placing his hands inappropriately on her body.
Costner’s team disputes these claims, stating that LaBella’s clothing remained intact throughout the shoot.
LaBella also alleged that Ivens’ hands rested on her pelvic area even between takes, further compounding the distress. She noted the emotional trauma was heightened by the fact that she was menstruating at the time, describing feelings of “shock,” “humiliation,” and “emotional devastation” after filming.
Communication With the Intimacy Coordinator
LaBella’s lawsuit includes a message she sent to the set’s intimacy coordinator following the incident, expressing her emotional state and dissatisfaction with how the scene was handled.
“I wanted to discuss yesterday’s abomination when we both have a chance… I was put in a really wrong position and it’s really affected me,” the message read.
She also questioned why the intimacy coordinator was not present during what she describes as one of the most sensitive scenes of the production.
