Kevin Costner Looks Ahead to New Projects After ‘Yellowstone’ Departure
Kevin Costner Opens Up About Life After ‘Yellowstone’ and His Future Plans
Kevin Costner is looking ahead to the next chapter of his career following his departure from the hit drama series Yellowstone.
The 70-year-old actor, widely known for his iconic role as Eliot Ness in The Untouchables, recently reflected on what lies ahead creatively. In an exclusive interview on Monday, September 15, Costner shared that he’s now focused on developing his own projects—and he’s open to exploring new genres.
“It doesn’t have to be a Western—it could be something else,” Costner said. “But when something is no longer interesting to me, or there’s another reason I need to move on, I’m willing to do that.”
He went on to discuss his passion for storytelling, regardless of format or length. “You can write a short story, a novel, or make a short movie—and it can live forever. It’s about how you tell it, and whether people can connect with it. That’s why certain stories stay with us and get passed down.”
Costner’s comments come nearly a year after his exit from Yellowstone, where he played the central role of John Dutton. His character was written off in Season 5, marking the end of his time on the Taylor Sheridan-created series.
Yellowstone aired its final episode on December 15, 2024, officially closing the curtain on one of television’s most talked-about modern Westerns.
