“Kevin Costner to ‘Yellowstone’ Co-Star Luke Grimes’ Dig: ‘We’re Done Talking’ in Icy Response”

Kevin Costner Responds Coldly to ‘Yellowstone’ Co-Star Luke Grimes’ Comment: “We’re Done Talking”

Kevin Costner has broken his silence — briefly — in response to recent comments made by his former Yellowstone co-star, Luke Grimes, regarding his exit from the blockbuster Western series.

While in Aspen, Colorado, the 69-year-old actor was approached by paparazzi who asked him about Grimes’ remarks. His response was curt: “We’re done talking.”

Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton on the show, had stirred some controversy on December 10 when he suggested that production became smoother after Costner left.

“To be really honest, Kevin being gone meant some of the conflict left too,” Grimes said. “It didn’t necessarily make the set super fun before. Not blaming anyone in particular, but this was the easiest season to shoot.”

Costner’s departure from Yellowstone in June made headlines, with speculation about behind-the-scenes friction between him and co-creator Taylor Sheridan. His character, John Dutton III, met a dramatic end in the series finale — first appearing to have died by suicide, but later revealed to have been murdered by his son Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Jamie’s girlfriend, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri).

Asked if he had watched the series finale, Costner admitted he hadn’t. “I didn’t see it. I heard it was a suicide, so that doesn’t really make me want to go watch it,” he said. “To be honest, I didn’t even know it aired last night.”

He appeared largely indifferent to how the story wrapped up. “I’m not thinking about the finale. I haven’t given it any thought. Let’s just let it go,” he added.

Still, the Oscar winner did express some respect for the writing team, speculating that the suicide twist could be a creative mislead. “Who knows? They’re good at what they do. Maybe it’s a red herring,” he said.

The final Yellowstone episodes aired on December 15, officially ending Costner’s tenure on the Paramount+ hit that helped reignite his career.
