“Yellowstone Set Shutdown Details Emerge After Kevin Costner ‘Lunged at Co-Star'”
Kevin Costner’s Reported Clash on Yellowstone Set Led to Shutdown, Sources Say
Tensions reportedly reached a breaking point on the set of Yellowstone after Kevin Costner allegedly “lunged” at his co-star Wes Bentley, prompting a temporary production shutdown.
Although the hit Paramount Western series has seen massive success, insiders claim that behind the scenes, things were far from harmonious. Creative tensions had reportedly been building for months, with disputes over scripts, direction, and ego clashes creating a charged atmosphere on set.
According to a source cited in an exclusive report, the situation came to a head during a disagreement between Costner, 70, and Bentley. The conflict reportedly began when Costner pushed to abandon Taylor Sheridan’s original script in favor of directing the scene his own way. Bentley, however, refused, allegedly telling the veteran actor, “I signed up for a Taylor Sheridan show, not a Kevin Costner production.”
This exchange is said to have ignited a heated argument that quickly escalated. One insider claimed: “Kevin didn’t like that, and he lunged at him. No punches were thrown, but they were in each other’s faces—pushing, shoving, and shouting until crew members had to step in and separate them.”
The altercation was reportedly the “tipping point” on a set already strained by ongoing creative disagreements and personal tensions. In the aftermath, some cast members reportedly struggled to continue working alongside Costner.
Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, was allegedly moved to tears by the incident, while others were said to be quietly relieved when Costner eventually exited the series. Luke Grimes, who portrays Kayce Dutton, later hinted at behind-the-scenes friction in a 2024 interview, saying: “To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone. Not pointing fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.”
Costner’s departure from Yellowstone has also been overshadowed by other controversies. He’s faced criticism for attempting to rewrite scripts without consulting the creative team, and is currently battling a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by stunt performer Devyn LaBella. In the lawsuit, LaBella alleges that Costner forced her to film a “violent” rape scene without warning or the presence of an intimacy coordinator. Costner has strongly denied the claims, calling them “a bold-faced lie” meant to harm his reputation.
Despite the negative headlines, some have defended the Oscar winner. His former agent, Rick Nicita, described Costner as someone who always knew exactly what he wanted: “He was never a great compromiser… It’s a firm belief in himself and a confidence that to some can play as arrogance.”
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has also spoken up, stating there was no personal rift between him and Costner. “I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone,” he said. “I don’t know that anyone deserves this kind of criticism.”
As the dust settles, Costner—once the commanding presence behind the Dutton dynasty—may now face his toughest role yet: defending his legacy.
