“Kevin Costner Kicks Off First Movie Since ‘Horizon’ After Western Saga Hits Snag”
Kevin Costner is returning to the screen. His 2024 film Horizon: An American Saga, which he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in, underperformed, leaving the planned four-part saga in limbo.
Costner will now star in the dramedy Honeymoon with Harry, directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Sarah Pidgeon. Filming begins in April in Queensland, Australia, specifically Brisbane and the Whitsundays. The film is based on Bart Baker’s novel and follows a rough man (Gyllenhaal) and his fiancé’s father-in-law (Costner) as they form an unexpected bond during a tragic journey just before a wedding.
Queensland expects the production to contribute $51 million to its economy and employ 215 people.
While Horizon sequels remain stalled—Chapter 2 premiered at Venice 2024, Chapter 3 is partly filmed, and Chapter 4 hasn’t started—projects like Honeymoon with Harry could allow Costner to continue his career while working toward completing his long-gestating saga.
