After Being Pulled from 2024 Schedule, Horizon: Chapter 2 Gets Positive Development

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 May Release in 2025, Says Star Isabelle Fuhrman

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 may finally arrive in 2025. Isabelle Fuhrman, who plays Diamond Kittredge in the epic Western saga, recently shared an encouraging update about the film’s release during the press tour for her new project, Wish You Were Here.

While Fuhrman emphasized that she hasn’t received official confirmation from New Line Cinema, she shared her belief that the sequel could be released sooner rather than later.

“I believe it’s coming pretty soon. I think they’re kind of massaging what’s going on with it, but I actually, as of now, haven’t heard anything,” Fuhrman said. “Actors are usually the last to know in these sorts of things. But I was really fortunate that we got to premiere it at Venice and see it with an audience. That was the first time I had seen the movie, and it was great. I’m really excited for people to see it.”

Originally set for release on August 16, 2024—just under two months after Chapter 1—the sequel was pulled from the calendar after the first film underperformed at the box office. Horizon: Chapter 1 grossed only $38.7 million worldwide against its $50 million budget.

Despite this setback, Chapter 2 made its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 7, 2024. Kevin Costner, who directed, co-wrote, and starred in the film, later addressed the delay, acknowledging that the modest performance of Chapter 1 played a role. “It didn’t have overwhelming success,” Costner admitted, adding that the decision to pull the sequel’s release date “was probably a reaction” to the first film’s box office results.

Horizon Finds New Life on Streaming

Although Horizon: Chapter 1 struggled in theaters, the film gained renewed interest on streaming platforms. In January 2025, it entered Netflix’s Top 10, introducing the sweeping Western to a broader audience.

Directed by Costner from a script he co-wrote with Jon Baird, Horizon: Chapter 1 explores life in the American frontier before and after the Civil War. Costner stars as Hayes Ellison alongside a star-studded ensemble cast including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Douglas Smith, and Luke Wilson.

As fans await official word on Chapter 2‘s theatrical release, Fuhrman’s optimism and the film’s growing streaming success suggest the saga may still ride on.
