Kevin Costner, a distinguished figure in Hollywood, has made a lasting impact as an actor, director, and producer. His most notable achievement, Dances with Wolves (1990), which he produced and directed, became the highest-grossing film worldwide that year and won seven Academy Awards. This success catapulted him to the forefront of the global film industry. Another iconic role was in The Bodyguard (1992), where he starred alongside Whitney Houston, with the soundtrack featuring her hit “I Will Always Love You,” further solidifying the film’s worldwide popularity. Costner is receiving the BAMBI award in the “Actor International” category, recognizing his excellence in acting, visionary creativity, and significant contributions to cinema.

A Multifaceted Passion for Acting, Music, and Nature
After attending California State University, Costner began his Hollywood journey in the corporate sector before pursuing acting. He took evening classes, which led to breakout roles in films like Silverado (1985), No Way Out (1987), and baseball classics Bull Durham (1988) and Field of Dreams (1989). His recent success in Yellowstone, a contemporary Western series now in its fifth season, underscores his ongoing influence in television. In 2024, he will embark on his most ambitious project yet, the four-part epic Horizon saga.
Beyond acting, Costner is a passionate musician, leading his country band, Kevin Costner & Modern West, since 2007. He is also an environmental advocate, contributing to technology that separates oil from water. His company provided 32 centrifuge machines in response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, a project he supported for years.
Germany’s Premier Media Award Returns
Since 1948, BAMBI has recognized individuals who have made significant contributions in Germany, achieved remarkable accomplishments, and serve as role models for the public. This year, the awards will be presented in up to twelve categories. BAMBI’s media partner is Prime Video, and the event will be streamed live from Bavaria Film Studios on November 7, 2024.
