Blue Bloods actress Abigail Hawk commends Tom Selleck for his warm welcome on her first day.

Abigail Hawk has shared how Tom Selleck made her feel incredibly welcome on her first day on the set of Blue Bloods. Initially cast for a walk-on role with just two scenes opposite Tom, who played Commissioner Frank Reagan, Abigail noted that despite her minor part, Tom sought her input. This interaction led to her being invited back for a second episode, as Tom expressed his appreciation for her presence.

In an interview on the Think Big With Michael Zellner podcast, Abigail recounted her nerves on that first day but emphasized her preparation. During their first scene together, which involved exiting an elevator into the real-time crime center, Tom was engaged in discussions about the scene’s setup. Abigail remembered Tom brainstorming ideas with her and mentioned that Frankie Faison, who was also on set, hinted that she would be staying on the show.

Abigail’s role grew into a recurring character throughout all 14 seasons. She also revealed that Tom often suggested films and shows for inspiration, such as High Noon and D-Day, advising her to observe the supporting characters who handle the stress, unlike the leaders who must remain composed.

Regarding the recent cancellation of Blue Bloods by CBS and speculation about Tom’s retirement, Abigail dismissed the rumors. “He is more invigorated than I have ever seen him,” she said, adding with a laugh, “I don’t know what elixir he’s taking, but it’s all natural, and that mustache is even more impressive in person.”

The CBS police procedural drama will conclude with its 15th season in Fall 2024. The cast, including Tom, have expressed strong opposition to the show’s ending. Tom, in particular, has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with CBS’ decision. “We’re the third-highest scripted show on broadcast television. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to return, and we’re still producing strong episodes,” Tom remarked. He added that CBS will find many fans reluctant to say goodbye, noting that the show is more popular than ever and that they still have plenty of ideas.
