‘Blue Bloods’ Series Finale Draws Record Viewership
The series finale of Blue Bloods marked the highest viewership of its final season, drawing a significant audience.
According to VideoAmp data, the Season 14/series finale, which aired on December 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, garnered 6.68 million viewers in the Live+Same Day ratings. This represents a 15% increase over the season’s average viewership in the same time slot.
Paramount Global has not been using Nielsen data since its contract with the company expired in September, with discussions ongoing. However, Nielsen estimates align closely with the VideoAmp data. The episode drew 5.86 million viewers in the Friday night time slot, setting a season high in Live+Same Day ratings. This surpassed the Season 14 premiere, which attracted 5.67 million viewers in February. Blue Bloods was also the most-watched broadcast program of the night, outpacing its nearest competitor, CBS’s Fire Country, which pulled in 4.54 million viewers.
Tom Selleck, reflecting on the show’s success, noted, “Imagine if you told CBS back in 2010 that they had a show they could air in their worst time slot, without heavy promotion, and it would win the night for 15 years. That’s pretty remarkable!”
Selleck also shared his and the cast’s desire to continue the series beyond the finale. “I can’t understand why they didn’t start streaming it and do 10 episodes a year,” he said. “But I’m not in charge. Everyone wanted to return, and with this cast, it would’ve been a gift for the audience. I don’t make those decisions, but I’m ready to celebrate and honor the show, even if I’m still adjusting to its end.”
