“‘Blue Bloods’ Showrunner Discusses Finale: Danny and Baez’s Moment, Shocking Death, and More”
After 14 seasons and 293 episodes on CBS, Blue Bloods has offered its final salute, ending the Reagan family’s iconic tradition of Sunday dinners with NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his family. For millions of viewers, it marked the end of an era, as the dinner table, a central part of the show, was cleared for the last time. While a spinoff was mentioned over the summer, there’s been no official development on that front.
Showrunner Kevin Wade, who’s been with the series since its very first episode, shares his thoughts on the finale, which he co-wrote with Siobhan Byrne O’Connor. Among the most poignant moments are a final tribute to Eddie Janko-Reagan’s (Vanessa Ray) partner, murdered Officer Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan), and a heartfelt conclusion filled with love for the entire Reagan family.
Reflecting on the final episode, Wade highlights two standout moments with the Reagans:
Kevin Wade: “The two scenes where all the Reagans are together were particularly special. We knew that these moments could be the last time we’d all be together doing this. One was a scene we’re not used to playing—the very solemn funeral of Officer Badillo. The other was our usual Sunday dinner at Frank and Henry’s house, a tradition we’ve had every week. This time, we had more than just the usual Reagan clan. Jack (Tony Terraciano), Danny’s older son, Nicky (Sami Gayle), Erin’s daughter, and Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), Erin’s ex-husband, all joined the table. Even Frank’s recently discovered grandson, Detective Joe Hill (Will Hochman), was there.”
The final dinner scene was full of heartfelt news. Among the revelations were Eddie and Jamie’s (Will Estes) upcoming baby, Erin’s (Bridget Moynahan) probable remarriage to Jack, and a surprising but welcome development: it seems a romance between Danny and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) might be on the horizon.
Wade shared his thoughts on the blossoming relationship between Danny and Baez:
Kevin Wade: “I want to give a shoutout to Siobhan, who wrote that storyline. I thought it was a beautiful way to close the chapter on their relationship. The scene between Danny and Pop played a key role in helping to bring this about, and it felt like a fitting way to end their story.”
