“Blue Bloods Star Emotionally Reflects on Cast’s Final Day on Set: ‘I’m Getting Choked Up'”

Blue Bloods Star Bridget Moynahan Reflects on Emotional Last Day of Filming Season 14

Premiering on CBS in 2010, Blue Bloods is a beloved police procedural created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, centering on the Reagan family of New York police officers. The series, which stars Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Andrew Terraciano, is now concluding with its 14th season. The final episodes of the show premiered earlier this year and are set to return in October before wrapping up for good.

In a recent interview with People, Bridget Moynahan, who portrays Erin Reagan, Frank Reagan’s (played by Selleck) daughter, shared her deeply emotional experiences from her final week of filming. Moynahan described the entire last week as “emotional,” particularly highlighting a poignant moment when Tom Selleck, who had already finished his own filming, came back to support her and Donnie Wahlberg during their last scene. Moynahan recalled the scene with great emotion, noting:

“I think we’re all a little disappointed. We’ve had such a good time. We all want to be there. It’s a real loss. This was our daily lives for 14 years. And we’ve all experienced major life moments together—births, deaths, marriages, divorces, illnesses. We’ve been through it all together.

“One of the most beautiful moments of that last day for me, which I’ll never forget, was when Tom, who was already wrapped, came down to watch Donnie and me film our final scene. We were behind a monitor—I’m getting choked up as I say this—and I had my arm around Tom, and he was holding my hands just like my dad did. We were so thankful, and he was so gracious. From day one, that’s how it was: ‘Nice to meet you. We are family.’

“There was an unspoken love, appreciation, and respect. Watching our brother, son, teammate, and such a significant voice of the show finish his last scene was profoundly emotional.”

Moynahan expressed her gratitude for the show’s supporters, particularly the law enforcement community, stating:

“I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who supported us, cheered us on, and tuned in every Friday night. It’s been wonderful to see how much people cared about the stories and characters.”

She also reflected on the finality of the experience, noting, “It was a lot of lasts, a lot of wonderful conversations with people who have been there from the beginning. There were many hugs and tears. It was quite beautiful.”

Impact on the Blue Bloods Finale

The decision to end Blue Bloods with its 14th season came as a surprise to many fans, leading to a #SaveBlueBloods campaign and vocal support from Selleck himself. Despite strong ratings and a passionate fan base, CBS confirmed the show’s end, with Executive Amy Reisenbach stating the importance of giving the series a proper sendoff.

Paramount co-CEO Brian Robbins has hinted at a potential “franchise extension,” though details are still unclear. While a new show set in the Blue Bloods universe might feature some familiar faces, Moynahan’s recent comments underscore how significant the original cast and their final filming moments were to the essence of the series.

Our Take

Moynahan’s reflections underscore the genuine camaraderie and respect among the Blue Bloods cast and crew, a dynamic that has undoubtedly contributed to the show’s long-standing success. As the series comes to a close, any future extensions of the Blue Bloods universe will face the challenge of capturing the unique chemistry and magic of the original show.
